Giovanni Valentini is professor of Strategic Management at IESE Business School, where he is also the Director of the PhD Program. Prior to joining IESE, he was an Associate Professor at Bocconi University, Milan. He received a PhD in Management from IESE Business School. Most of his research has tried to contribute to a better understanding of how firms can combine internal and external knowledge to gain competitive advantage through technological innovation and growth. His work has appeared on Organization Science, Management Science, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies, Industrial & Corporate Change, and Research Policy, among other outlets. He has held visiting positions at Harvard University, University of Toronto, SKEMA Business School, LUISS University, and K.U Leuven. He serves on the editorial board of the Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Management, and European Management Review, and he is co-editor of Industrial and Corporate Change. He served as rep-at-large for the Knowledge and Innovation IG of SMS. Moreover, he has been a member of the Research Committee and of the Executive Committee of the Business Policy and Strategy Division (formerly BPS, now STR), and he is currently rep-at-large of the Technology and Innovation Management (TIM) Division of the Academy of Management.
